Ang Dating Daan Boycott vs GMA Network, GMA News TV Enters 7th Week
The Ang Dating Daan group’s sustained boycott against GMA Network, GMA News TV, and all its assets in print, radio, television, cable, and online, is entering its 7th week. The boycott began last August 7 after the giant network re-aired on August 3 the controversial interview with a serial rapist who filed an invented case of rape against the ADD leader.
Congregants and sympathizers of the Ang Dating Daan joined hands in protesting the network’s irresponsible reporting by logging at Facebook and Twitter, wearing picbadges bearing their cry for justice. A Facebook fan page, 2011 Boycott GMA News, is nearing 10,000 likes. The fan page was put up to send a strong signal to GMA Network that irresponsible media reporting will not be condone.
On sixth week, the boycott reached a milestone when the boycott GMA Network picbadge was listed among the top picbadges in the country, gaining up to 5,000 supporters.
Since August 7, members have already deleted Channels 7 and 11 in their television program.
Based on the comments posted by those who supported the campaign, the massive boycott slapped by the Ang Dating Daan group against GMA Network and GMA News TV will continue until the giant network renders a public apology to its victim, Bro. Eli Soriano.
GMA Network, however, continues to play deaf ears. Worried, the station paid full page advertisements crying that its GMA News TV was topping the surveys. But bloggers and observers are pointing out that the survey firm used by GMA has its credibility questioned in court.
