The Ang Dating Daan program, which is one of the longest-running shows on Philippine television, can now be seen on TV in India, Australia, the Middle East, Europe, Canada and the Americas. This was made possible when the program launched through Thaicom satellite last November 1, 2011, the show’s English-format program, The Old Path.

For viewers in the United States and Canada, the Galaxy 19 satellite delivers the program straight to viewers’ living rooms. From these television broadcast efforts, together with 24/7 webcasts, the humble program that sprang forth from the a bullhorn and a pulpit in Pampanga, Philippines has now reached intercontinental viewership.

Bro. Eli Soriano started preaching from town to town in Pampanga, Philippines in the 1970s. Wanting to bring the Gospel to a wider audience, he began preaching on radio. And the rest is – or to be more apt – the rest has made broadcast history.

“We hope, with the help of God, the brethren, and our countrymen, that the Ang Dating Daan will continue to air not only in the whole of the Philippines but with God’s mercy, in the whole world,” said Bro. Eli, whose preaching is today being translated in English, Spanish and Portuguese to name a few.

“Like what we always say, if we are able to do something, and if there is any glory attained, it is always for God – to God be the glory!,” added the international preacher.

Ang Dating Daan is Member Church of God International’s award-winning religious program whose title is based on the biblical verse Jeremiah 6:16. It acquired Gawad Amerika’s “Most Informative Religious Program” twice now – in 2006 and 2011.

Ang Dating Daan Celebrates 31st Anniversary in Broadcast, Public Service

Ang Dating Daan (ADD), the multi-awarded religious program hosted by Bro Eli Soriano, is celebrating 31 years this October. Known for its vigorous evangelization works on radio and television since 1980, the show now reaches more than 30 countries globally.

Starting as a 30-minute radio program when it went on air in 1980, Ang Dating Daan went on air television in 1983. Since then, the program continued to attract more viewers and listeners, becoming a household name.

More opportunities opened for Ang Dating Daan when it reached western shores in 2004, paving the way for its launch of the Spanish and Portuguese titles, El Camino Antiguo and O Caminho Antigo. Now airing on free and cable television, especially in North and South America, these programs have a 24 hours and 7 days a week schedule. Fox Channel is the most recent addition to ADD’s official carriers.

The production staff was initially a three-man team of Bro. Eli Soriano, Bro. Daniel Razon, and Sis. Luz Cruz. Together, they pioneered the popular program, now known internationally as The Old Path. To date, ADD broadcasts in more than 30 countries in Asia, Europe, North America, Central America, and South America through satellite and the World Wide Web.

The program takes pride in its unique brand of question and answer segment, Itanong Mo Kay Soriano, Biblia Ang Sasagot. The question-and-answer portion has sustained the show’s popularity among the viewing public for years. Here, Bro. Eli Soriano answers every possible question on religion and faith. What is unique about the question and answer segment is that Bro Eli answers the questions from live audience whether in the studio or when there are Bible Expositions in various places.

Because of the program’s popularity, its approach in religious discussion and exposition of religious fraud, Ang Dating Daan also became the target of various hate campaigns on television, radio, broadsheets, and the Internet. Even as it continues to hail the flag in the West, censure also followed it.

It has survived not only vicious criticisms in the Philippines but also won against series of legal suits and political black propaganda which all have attempted to ban the program. Many times, Ang Dating Daan was caught in religious clashes with rivalling religious groups and targeted its cease in broadcast.

Although such efforts put a strain to the program’s survival, Ang Dating Daan continues to satisfy the religious interest of people. More to it is the support and warm welcome from those who admitted they “have grown tired of their former religions that had done nothing but to extort money from them.”

Over the years, the program has also grown to be identified in the public as promoter of social good through its charity projects and programs. It has forged numerous partnerships with government and non-government organizations upholding public service advocacies on health, education, social welfare, responsible journalism, and environment protection.

Among its programs for the marginalized sector are the free bus ride, free transient home, quarterly mass blood donations, free medical services, free legal services, feeding programs, free education, orphanages, and disaster-relief missions. It also initiated environmental awareness actions, like tree planting and clean-up drives.

The public services of Ang Dating Daan have inspired similar projects and campaigns. One such is the Isang Araw Lang (Just One Day) Campaign, a social good propaganda which upholds doing good even for just one day.

Due to its vigorous evangelization and public service programs, Ang Dating Daan has earned many citations for its contributions to spiritual and social welfare. One is the Gawad Amerika, when it named Ang Dating Daan as the Most Informative Religious Program in 2009. The following year, the Philippine National Red Cross acknowledged Ang Dating Daan as most outstanding partner for its continuous donations of safe blood.

As host, Bro. Eli has also been awarded many times, the highest distinction being The Most Educational To Follow in 2010 by Mashable.com. His blog, esoriano.wordpress.com, was chosen best from among many sites which competed in the same category. – Written by Cecile Vizcaya

Known for his love of gadgets and technological innovations, Kuya Daniel Razon carries a great mission behind his savvy nature.

A 20-year veteran in broadcast industry, Kuya Daniel trails information and technology as it happens. He is a familiar face in various exhibits, whether of communication or broadcast facilities, where he keenly observes and acquires equipments and gadgets that can be used to further propagate the gospel. As Vice Presiding Minister of the Members Church of God International, his duty takes him to different places and occasions as he weaves his visions to the message behind the advancements. As a servant of God conscious of Biblical timetable, Kuya Daniel has technology for his watch.

A prophecy in the Holy Scriptures guides Kuya Daniel as he tracks the footprints of scientific and technological progress. In the Book of Daniel 12:4, the prophecy says –

But thou, O Daniel, shut up the words, and seal the book, even to the time of the end: many shall run to and fro, and knowledge shall be increased.

The prophecy states that at the time of the end, “many shall run to and fro, and knowledge shall be increased.” If there is a time in human history where knowledge is most increased, that is our time. Our present era, known as the Information Age, is a time where people can communicate at the opposite sides of the globe. We have the satellite, cell phone, internet, television and radio—everything to aid faster communication. People are also much more mobile today compared to people a thousand years ago. We have cars, buses, trains, airplanes, and even spacecrafts enabling us to go from place to place 24/7 at a much faster speed. Our time, as the prophecy perfectly describes, is the time where knowledge has increased—the time of the end.

Furthermore, in Daniel 12:9-10 the prophecy says –

And he said, Go thy way, Daniel: for the words are closed up and sealed till the time of the end. Many shall be purified, and made white, and tried; but the wicked shall do wickedly: and none of the wicked shall understand; but the wise shall understand.

At the time of the end, it is not only human knowledge that shall be increased; more importantly, knowledge in the words of God in the Holy Scriptures. The Scriptures says, “For the words are closed up and sealed till the time of the end.” This implies that at the time of the end, the closed up words shall be opened, and the sealed book shall be understood by the prophesied “wise.” It is through this understanding of the words of the prophecy that “many shall be purified, and made white, and tried.” This is the message of the Prophet Daniel written more than 2,000 years ago. This is where Kuya Daniel perceives technology on a higher perspective.

“Whatever innovation that I see, whatever technology, gadgets or whatsoever, the first thing that comes into my mind is how these can be beneficial to the brotherhood, how these can be beneficial to our fellowmen, how these can be used in the ministry, that is what immediately comes into my mind.” said Kuya Daniel in a regular Thanksgiving Day held last year in the Ang Dating Daan Convention Center.

Although Kuya Daniel’s zealousness in propagating the gospel is unquestionable, he does not work without guidance. His endeavors are engrafted in the one whom the Prophet Daniel was referring to as the “wise” who shall understand the sealed book at the time of the end, none other than MCGI Presiding Minister, Bro. Eli Soriano.

Following Bro. Eli’s lead, Kuya Daniel conceptualizes and puts into action noble, nonetheless, financially challenging projects designed to fill up spaces unreached by the current 24/7 global evangelization: from radio, television, internet, blog, newspapers, magazines and many other means of propagation, to using MP3 players that contain hundreds of Bro. Eli’s answers during his Bible Expositions around the world.

It is Bro. Eli at the palm of their hands; and it takes faith—more than brain and guts—to multiply the mouthpiece of God in this present time.

While sowing seeds of truth and righteousness in different continents is Bro. Eli’s current assignment from God, technology has a good reason for advancing. And through all of Bro. Eli’s endeavors and labors, there is Kuya Daniel to watch technology as it unfolds, to use it for the propagation of the gospel, all for the glory of God.
